The SI CARES, Effective Communication class was customized and designed to support participants in reaching their year 3 enrollment goals. Participants gain a deeper understanding of their own communication style through a communication assessment. Participants were able to learn their own style and learn how to effectively communicative with other styles as well as exploring cultural considerations when communicating. Participants were able to learn tools and best practices for client engagement such as AIDET which is a framework for staff to communication with patients/clients. AIDET stands for Acknowledge, Introduce, Exploration and Thank You. It represents a powerful way to communicate with people who are often nervous, anxious and feeling vulnerable. It can also be used as we communicate with other staff and colleagues, especially when we are providing an internal service. Finally, participants crafted their own SI Client engagement script.
