3.g.ii Integration of Palliative Care into Nursing Homes, Module Five: MOLST and Ethical Considerations for End-of-Life

 

This module describes the ethical considerations regarding the palliative care population with focus on the skilled nursing facility/geriatric resident, and discusses how ethics is a foundational element in palliative care.  The purpose and methods to identify and document goals of care are explored.  Advanced care planning and advanced directives, and ways in which they can prevent ethical dilemmas are reviewed.  The concepts of decisional capacity and competency are explored.  MOLST is also reviewed, and implementation of the MOLST is discussed in regards to the palliative care population.
