Fentanyl is a man-made opioid that is fifty times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Prescribed fentanyl is often used for pain management. Staten Island PPS is working to decrease opioid overdose deaths. As a part of these efforts, we are funding fentanyl testing kits as a form of harm reduction at the local emergency room. Since the beginning January 2022 through April 2022, a total of 165 fentanyl testing kits have been given through the emergency room.
