Medical Director, Population Health and Quality, EmblemHealth
Dr. Lama El Zein is currently the medical director for population health and quality at EmblemHealth. She is an experienced medical director with a demonstrated history of working in the healthcare industry and medical practice. She is skilled in healthcare management, medical education, primary care, palliative care and program development. She is a healthcare leader with experience in quality, system transformation to promote whole-person care to improve outcome, access, equity and affordability. She has an experience in population health management, crisis prevention in primary care and financial sustainability of home care and home visits programs as well as supportive care clinics in cancer centers. She establishes strong partnerships with stakeholders including numerous health services organizations, home visit organizations, clinics and hospitals across the continuum of care including nurses, care managers, social workers and administrators. She is an educator with many years of experience in federally qualified health centers where she worked on many quality improvement projects at Columbia University Medical Center. Her current work focuses on care management, creating programs around chronic and advanced illnesses. She is an adjunct assistant professor of Medicine at the Center of Family and Community medicine at Columbia University in NY. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative care and the chair of their quality committee. She is a member of the Geriatric Measurement Advisory Panel at NCQA.
Dr. El Zein graduated from the American University of Beirut; she completed her residency in family medicine at Columbia University and her fellowship in palliative care at Montefiore health system. She holds an executive master in healthcare administration from Columbia University school of public health.
