Disclaimer: due to the complexity of adding and managing Quizzes, it is advised to coordinate managing lessons with the HWapps Account Service Team. Quizzes are not frequently used by the OneCity Health Workforce Team on the LMS. If you would like a full demo of the Quizzes feature of the LMS, please contact HWapps.
A Quiz is a blanket term for any question- or response-related step of online learning. Quizzes can be custom set up to serve as Attestation statements, confirmation statements, post-training surveys, data-collecting steps, or – naturally – as quizzes. There are a variety of different styles and setups ranging from true/false, multiple choice, sorting, long-response, ordering, etc.
Creating a quiz and assigning it to your course shell or lesson (quizzes can be assigned to either, or both), requires you to following these steps:
As mentioned, quizzes can be added to lessons or courses but they are typically assigned on the course level. To create a quiz, visit the OCH Admin backend dashboard by hovering over the “Home” icon and selecting “Dashboard.” Once on the backend, hover over “Trainings” and select “Quizzes.”
Once you are in the quizzes section, you can add or edit quiz by clicking “Add New,” or by hovering over an existing quiz and selecting “Edit.” When creating a new quiz, you will see many options, but this guide will focus on the more common attributes of a quiz. Follow the steps below to create a quiz for its respective course.
Step 1) Give the quiz a title and if you’d like the quiz to show up on a specific URL, edit the permalink below the title. Otherwise, the permalink will automatically pull from the quiz title (note: the permalink will not show until the quiz is published).
Step 2) Write a description for the quiz. This can be done by typing in the visual or text tab of the rich text editor.
Step 3) Assign a certificate threshold which specifies the minimum score needed to receive a certificate for completing the quiz
Step 4) Assign a passing percentage which specifies the minimum percentage that a user needs to receive in order to pass the quiz.
Step 5) Scroll to the bottom of the quiz and check the box for activate graduation. Here, you can type a message that will be displayed on the front-end for users after they complete the quiz. Clicking add graduation will add another area where you can display another message. For instance, in the first text box, you can type “Sorry, but you did not meet the passing criteria. Please retake a quiz until you receive an 80% or higher.” and in the second box, you can specify the message that will be shown if the user meets the passing criteria such as, “Congratulations, you passed!”
Step 6) Scroll up, towards the right and check the box for hide course continue button. Checking this box makes it so that users cannot continue on without completing the quiz.
Step 7) Publish the quiz. You will not have the ability to add the quiz questions until you publish.
Step 8) After publishing the quiz, go to the questions tab and click add question.
Step 9) Scroll down to where it says question and type in the first question here.
Step 10) Find the area that says answer type and choose from the list of options. Single choice and multiple choice or the most common. Single choice allows you to display different answers to the question, but users will only have the option to select one correct answer. Multiple choice allows you to display different answers to the question and users will have the option to pick multiple choices by checking the boxes for all the answers that they believe are correct.
Step 11) Scroll down to the answer text area and enter the answer(s) here. You can add more answers by clicking add new answer. Choose the correct answer(s) for the question.
Step 12) Click save.
Step 13) To add a new question, scroll up and choose click here to add another question.
Step 14) After adding all questions to the quiz, select return to questions overview to review the questions you have added to the quiz.
Step 15) Assign the quiz to a training by going into the course settings and using the drag and drop feature to attach the quiz on the course level.
